In 2017, the Telangana State Government introudced a game-changing concept called “Medical Devices Park ”, in Hyderabad, which is in line with “Make in Telangana” and “ Atma Nirbhar Bharat” initiatives.

The Medical Devices Park is an important initiative by the Telangana government, aiming to harness the industry’s potential and reduce reliance on imports. It has now become the largest hub in India for medical technology research, innovation, and manufacturing. 

The park is HUGE, covering an area of 302 acres and has gained immense popularity among leading medtech companies.

Since its launch, the park has received an incredible response and has attracted around 50 companies to establish their research and manufacturing facilities within its premises. These companies have made a substantial investment of approximately Rs. 1500 crore. 

Not only that, but these companies are expected to generate about 7,000 direct job opportunities.

To further support the park’s tenants, the government has partnered with testing laboratories in the city to provide essential testing facilities.

To further enhance the power infrastructure, there are plans for an additional $15 billion investment. Within the park, all internal roads have 11 KV lines to efficiently distribute power.   • Rapid Prototyping & Tooling Lab: This lab provides cutting-edge technologies for 3D printing, including Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), Stereolithography (SLA), Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), and 3D scanners.   • Common Facilities for Medical Device Testing: The park provides common facilities for essential testing procedures. These include sterility and toxicity testing, biocompatibility and biomaterial testing, electrical safety and reliability testing (component testing), as well as radiation testing using techniques such as gamma irradiation. The facilities also cater to 3D printing and molding requirements. Last but not least!
  • Warehouse: With a massive 100,000 square feet, there’s a huge warehouse in the park dedicated for storing and distributing medical devices. The warehouse is compliant with global standards and offers a secure facility with third-party logistics (3PL) services.

Financial Assistance from Government

The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has allocated a total budget of Rs 400 crores for Medical Devices Park’s initiative. Under the scheme called “Promotion of Medical Device Park in India,” the government will provide support of up to Rs 100 crore for the construction of each Medical Device Park. The project will be executed by the State Implementing Agency (SIA) under the guidance of the Central Government. The scheme will be in effect from FY 2020-2021 to FY 2024-2025.

Now, here’s the exciting part! Each Medical Device Park will receive common infrastructure facilities that cover 70% of the project cost. It gives a significant boost to promote the development of the healthcare industry in these areas.

The government has set a maximum limit of Rs 100 crores for each Device Park. This ensures fairness and effective utilization of resources.
