If you have proper appointments and plan accordingly, the surgery process is very smooth. I had a family member undergo a surgical procedure there without any issues.

There’s a bigger and more spacious campus in Kismatpur where the crowd is less, and the services are quicker.

L V Prasad Eye Institute is a globally recognized center for ophthalmology. LVPEI is one of the top 3 eye hospitals in India, alongside AIIMS and Dhankar Nethralaya. It’s an excellent choice for eye care, but since it’s often crowded, it’s best to visit with a prior appointment. You can visit this hospital for anything related to eye care.

Appointment for Eye Examination : If you’re planning to get treated here, you’ll need to plan well in advance. Getting an appointment isn’t easy, and it usually takes about one to two months to secure one. If you’re okay with that waiting period, then go ahead and book your appointment.

Personal Experience with Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital:

I would like to share my experience with Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital in Mehdipatnam. Both my father and grandmother were treated here when I was a kid.

My father’s case was critical. A large tree branch struck his eye, causing severe damage. He rushed to Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital, as it was the only option he knew at the time. Initially, a senior doctor gave up after examining his eye. However, a passionate trainee doctor saw a significant chance of recovery and insisted on proceeding with treatment. I don’t know her name, but I am immensely grateful to her. My father stayed at the hospital for a couple of weeks and underwent multiple surgeries. We had little hope of recovery and believed his vision was beyond saving. Miraculously, about 80% of his vision was restored.

However, I distinctly remember one incident after one of my father’s surgeries. Right after the surgery, a staff member asked me for money. When I refused and questioned why I should pay, he prevented me and my sister from visiting my father. To make matters worse, my father hadn’t eaten since before the surgery and was hungry. My sister eventually had to bribe the staff member just so we could see him. Unfortunately, this behavior seemed widespread at the hospital. Corruption seemed deeply rooted in the system. Everyone, from the watchman to the support staff, demanded bribes—except for the doctors.

My grandmother’s experience at the hospital was good. However, cases of negligence do happen very rarely, so one must be cautious. You can find such incidents reported online as well.

Overall, while the medical treatment at Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital has been commendable in critical situations, the systemic corruption among non-medical staff leaves a lot to be desired.
